The purpose of this seminar is to expose participants to the spectrum of productive and trapping units found associated with Lower Cretaceous clastic heavy oil and bitumen reservoirs in Alberta (these deposits are directly analogous to equivalent beds located in west-central Saskatchewan).

Following a lecture on the regional geology of the heavy oil – bitumen fairway of eastern Alberta and western Saskatchewan, participants will review cores from the Lloydminster – Cold Lake – Wabasca – Athabasca regions. The cores selected will cover the complete stratigraphic spectrum of Lower Cretaceous (Mannville) units as well as the varying types of reservoir architecture, including channel fills, estuarine deposits and wave-formed shorelines. PRCL has an extensive library of core logs in eastern Alberta heavy oil and bitumen reservoirs, and can customize the course according to the specific needs of clients. Clients are encouraged to request their own specific cores of interest, to review in the context of the regional geology discussed in the seminar.
